Do I need a separate earthquake insurance policy?

Earthquake insurance is usually not required and most homeowners insurance policies do not cover for losses caused by earthquakes.  You should check with your insurance agent to see if your policy includes it.  If it does not than you may need to purchase a separate earthquake insurance policy.  Earthquake insurance generally has a higher deductible (usually 10% of the insured amount) than homeowners insurance.  If you live in an earthquake zone than you should contact your agent about adding this important coverage.
